Nearly every third high school youth in the Araby area in Växjö did not apply for a summer job in 2018. Both the Moderates and the Social Democrats want to see change through new efforts.

– We need to use the meeting places we have at Araby, for example Araby Park Arena, to meet young people and provide support for writing CVs and applications. We will now switch up these types of efforts, says the municipal councilor Oliver Rosengren (M) to SVT Småland.

Opposition council Tomas Thornell (S) also wants the municipality of Växjö to make an extra effort to support young people and help them to apply for summer jobs.

– It is a great exclusion in Araby, which means that you do not have the same opportunity to enter society. Unfortunately, this is inherited. If you have parents who may be unemployed, it also affects the children and that means that fewer are applying for summer jobs, he tells SVT Småland.
