In 2017, 87 people in Kronoberg County applied for open and closed care after being bitten or attacked by a dog, reports SVT Småland. The statistics come from figures from the National Board of Health and Welfare. The numbers do not include primary care.

According to Sirkuu Sarenbo, associate professor of environmental science at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, dogs of the fighting dog type, such as American staffordshire terrier and pit bull terrier, are over-represented.

– We have deliberately selected different attributes in different dog breeds. If you are not going to hunt, you should not buy a hunting dog, if you do not want the dog to fight, you should not get a dog that has historically been used for dog fighting, she says to SVT Småland.
