Corona can stop young people's chance to get summer jobs

Young people attending grade nine upper secondary school, class one and two at high school in Lessebo municipality tend to be able to apply for summer jobs within the municipality's operations. But this year, the municipal summer jobs can be stopped altogether because of the ongoing corona pandemic.

– We should also be able to take care of a holiday worker and give it work assignments. If the situation becomes even more strained, then it may be that we wait with holiday workers during the year. If it becomes a steep curve, then we may have to restructure with our own staff. Then it is a crisis work, and then we cannot receive holiday workers, says municipal manager Christina Nyquist to Smålandsposten.

To get a summer job in healthcare and care sees Christina Nyquist as completely excluded due to the risk of infection.

– I do not see that we will be able to have holiday workers, she tells Smålandsposten.

At the moment, the municipality has decided to pause the applications completely.
