Mosaik reporter recognized nationally

Växjö • Publicerad 13 december 2019

Mosaik’s reporter and chronicler Maha Nasser has been awarded a project grant from the Swedish Cultural Council. She receives 70,000 Swedish crowns for her project with the autobiographical novel "No sin for me, except I’m female".

– When the free word is threatened, one of the cornerstones of our democracy is threatened. By standing up for freedom of expression and artistic freedom, we stand up for what builds our society, says Henriette Zorn, administrator at the Cultural Council for the project grant with sanctuary artists.

Växjö has been a haven for persecuted journalists since 2012. Maha Nasser is a refugee journalist from Yemen who has lived in Växjö for more than a year.

– I am so happy and grateful for that. It is a great opportunity for me to start a new journey in my life as an author. I hope that I can communicate my message through this novel that highlight on violence against women and honor issues in Arab society, says Maha Nasser.
