New large hospital is being built in Växjö

At the end of May, the Kronoberg Regional Council made a historic decision to build a new hospital in Växjö. The new hospital will be built in Räppe and is expected to be completed in 2027.

- Today we have made a historic and very important decision for the inhabitants of Kronoberg. By building a completely new hospital from scratch, we have a unique opportunity to design the hospital operations with the flexibility required for the future, says Mikael Johansson (M), chairman of the regional board.

The hospital will be located at the old Wessel district, which Kronoberg Region does not own. The region must now agree with the municipality of Växjö on the land. According to the calculations, the new hospital can cost about 5 billion Swedish crowns.
