No folk party in Alvesta

Last year, the Folk Party in Alvesta was canceled because the date collided with the election day. Alvesta municipality then promised that the event would return this year, but it will not.

– There have not been enough funds simply. It is really sad. The folk party has been very much appreciated, but it is another economic situation right now, says Lavinia Strömberg (S), chairman of the cultural and leisure board, to Smålandsposten.

Instead of the Folk party, the municipality chooses to give 20,000 Swedish crowns each to three smaller integration initiatives. It goes to the night football, a family day and a music and dance concert series.

– There will always be activities and involvement around integration projects. Then whether it is called Alvesta Folk party or something else plays a minor role, says Suzanne Hammargren, former director of administration for culture and leisure, to Smålandsposten.
