Plans for a new high school in Växjö

Within ten years, the number of high school students in Växjö is expected to increase by almost 500. The municipality therefore plans to build a new high school.

– Already, the number of places at existing high school schools is almost fully utilized, not least in the northern part of Växjö. The need will increase in the future and it is important that we are ready to meet this need, says Pernilla Tornéus (M), chair of the education committee.

The school, with the proposed name Hagavikskolan, is planned for a total of 630 students and will be located in the new residential area Hagavik. At the same time, it is also planned for a new sports hall and a new school kitchen.

– We see a great need for a sports hall in the northern and northeastern part of Växjö, where there is currently no such thing. It is a good solution that we can meet this need in connection with the construction of a new high school, Jon Malmqvist (KD), chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee.

It is the commander-in-chief Monica Skagne who has been commissioned to start the project with a new high school. The next decision, whether to start projection, is expected to be made in the fall of 2020.
