Scensommar is cancelled
Since there is still uncertainty about what the state of the coronavirus will look like this summer, the municipality of Växjö has made the decision to cancel Scensommar 2020.
– We have for the longest time tried to keep the idea of Scensommar 2020 alive in order to be able to disseminate stage art to all Växjö residents who may also have had to change their summer plans because of Covid-19. This is also a sad message for all the associations and collaboration partners we have, the Kronoberg Region and all other municipalities in the county. We had really been looking forward to doing this with them, but we hope to offer a fantastic Scensommar 2021 instead, says Therese Johansson, Project Manager for Scene Summer.
Scensommar has previously consisted of events with theater, music, dance and new circus for the whole family during the summer months.
– It is obviously sad to have to make this decision, but at the same time we as a municipality must be responsible in this situation and follow the current directives to try to reduce the spread of infection, says Tomas Ekelius, head of cultural and recreation management.
However, the organizers hope that parts of the program aimed at the target group of children and young people can still be implemented as a supplement to the municipalities' regular summer activities in childcare.
– Through the success of the regional Stage Summer, we have been able to offer high quality culture throughout our county in good cooperation with all the county's municipalities and organizers. Therefore, it feels sad to have to make this decision, but I am still happy that we can run in a format that is a little smaller and adapted to the prevailing circumstances, says Ida Eriksson (M) chairman of the cultural committee in the Kronoberg Region.
