The 19-year-old is convicted of the big fire at Maxi in Växjö
The man, who has now reached the age of 19 and who has been prosecuted for being responsible the big fire at Ica Maxi in Växjö is now convicted of carelessness endangering the public. The crime is assessed as serious.
During the trial, several people testified. Among other people, the two girls who were previously suspected of the fire. But the district court also had a surveillance film from the store available to be able to sort out the debt issue. The film shows the 19-year-old putting a lighted candle on a shelf in the store. One of the girls removed the candle and then put it back up again. After that, the 19-year-old brought storage boxes next to the candle. And it was in the storage boxes that the fire started. The shelf in flames in a few minutes after the 19-year-old had moved the storage boxes together and left.
Against this background, it is believed that it is the 19-year-old who has committed a crime. He was initially charged with arson, but was convicted of carelessness endangering the public. However, two board members objected and wanted the 19-year-old to be convicted of arson. The sanction will be protective supervision with treatment programs.
No person was injured in the fire that broke out in early February. According to the judgment, the damage that occurred in the store is expected to approximately 15 million Swedish crowns.
