Vaccine against rota virus for all children
From now on, vaccines against the infectious rota virus are included in the general child vaccination program. All children in Kronoberg County will be offered vaccination. The rota virus causes stomach upset and can cause infections that last for a long time and sometimes require hospital care.
– An estimate is that half of the children being cared for in hospitals with gastric disease have rota virus. Rota virus can, if desired, cause fluid deficiency and require treatment with drip and several days of hospital care, says Anna Bärtås, former pediatric health care consultant in the Region Kronoberg.
The vaccination is given by the child health services at the same time as the other vaccinations in the vaccination program. The first dose is given at six weeks of age and the second at three months.
