Volunteers help during the crisis
Due to the risk of infection for the coronavirus disease COVID-19, the Red Cross in Växjö keeps all its operations closed. Instead, the Red Cross chooses to start a free service to help the people in Växjö who are in need of help and support.
– We have a collaboration with the municipality of Växjö where we will help those who are over 70 years old. It can be shopping and delivering groceries and prescription medicines, take care of dogs or call support. We are a crisis organization that has changed our way of working to help in this crisis situation, says Marie Liljegren, coordinator for social activities at the Red Cross in Växjö
Växjö Municipality and the Red Cross are now looking for volunteers who can help with their assignments.
– It's a lot of people who want to help. There are usually many people who want to set up when there are crises, says Marie Liljegren.
The food is purchased via the Red Cross and picked up by the volunteers. The groceries are then left outside each residence. Anyone who wants assistance should contact Växjö Municipality on 0470-410 00 and report their need. Then the Red Cross calls and discusses the mission. Those who want to help and volunteer can contact the Red Cross via 0470-150 04 or vaxjo@redcross.se.
