The city profile Petra says goodbye
Petra Balog was present when the city host service was established in November 2013 and has since then been a well-known and esteemed profile in the center of Växjö.
– When I started this employment, I had no idea about the celebrity lifestyle. But I am very happy about the social contact network that I have built up thanks to this job.
Having a friendly attitude and treating everyone equally has been characteristic of Petra.
– I make no difference to people. When I walk downtown, I greet and talk to both municipal councils and the people on the park benches.
During Petra's 6.5 years as a city host, much has changed in Växjö city, especially in the station area.
– Sometimes I can miss the old station building and the entire bus square. It was truly a gathering place for all people.
More recently, Petra has noticed increased concern in Växjö. Admittedly, she has never felt scared when walking around the city, but on the other hand, she has been upset of provocative attitude in some people.
– This applies to both young people and adults. People who smoke in the lifts or park the car in the bus area may behave in a nonchalant manner and ignore the promises. There are many comments like "fuck off".
But 98 percent of the calls as city host are positive, Petra says, which has helped many Växjö residents and Växjö visitors over the years. It has been everything from informing about the right train and bus to showing the way to hotels and restaurants.
– Being able to help and to get so much gratitude back is something that I really appreciated.
What is the oddest question you have received during these years?
– What is the meaning of life? That question was not easy to answer.
On Friday, Petra goes on her last round as city host. And she will walk with heavy steps.
– Sadly, I will miss this job.
What are you going to do instead?
– I do not know yet. But I hope to find a service job. I like to be active and help people.
